Nakashima holds off Jodar to book first ATP Masters final in Montreal

Brandon Nakashima of the United States edged Rafael Jodar of Spain in a thrilling ATP 1000 National Bank Open semifinal, securing a spot in the inaugural ATP Masters final in Montreal. The American triumphed 7-6 (7/3), 6-4, in a match lasting over two hours, with Nakashima needing 66 minutes to clinch the second set. Jodar, a finalist in Washington and a rising star tipped to break into the top 10 rankings, saved four match points before ultimately falling to Nakashima.

The final game, marked by six deuces and stretching beyond ten minutes, was described as "crazy" by Nakashima. The 25-year-old American, who will be participating in his fifth final and the most prestigious of his career, credited his serving and forehand for his victory. Nakashima expressed his delight at the performance, stating that his forehand had been a standout shot today.

He awaits the winner of the other semifinal, where defending champion Ben Shelton will face fellow American Lerner Tien. The last time an American pair contested an ATP Masters title was in 2003, featuring Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick.
