PPC, MCBA strengthen cooperation on border security at Penang Port

George Town, Penang: The Penang Port Commission (PPC) and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) are tightening their partnership to bolster security and optimize inspection procedures at Penang's entry points, focusing on the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT). PPC Chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin emphasized that bolstering security measures must coincide with enabling lawful trade and maintaining seamless operations at the terminal.

In a statement released today, Yeoh highlighted that security enhancements must be parallel with smooth trade operations, guaranteeing legitimate commerce proceeds without interruption, while also averting congestion that could impact daily activities at the terminal. He pledged PPC's full backing to MCBA, including information exchange, technical aid, and the implementation of cutting-edge surveillance technologies to bolster surveillance and enforcement capabilities.

These measures aimed to diminish security risks and positively influence the well-being of the Penang populace, according to Yeoh. He underscored the significance of continued collaboration between PPC and MCBA to ensure safer, more efficient, and competitive port management, aligning with government policies and operational necessities on the ground.

Earlier, Yeoh convened a courtesy meeting with an MCBA delegation headed by Penang MCBA Commander Zuhair Jamaludin. The gathering also served as a forum for both entities to deliberate on enhancing inspection protocols at entry points, striking a balance between security requisites and the necessity of facilitating efficient cargo and trade movements.
