Perfect storm of Monsoon Session comes to an end

Each year, the Monsoon Session of Parliament is often dubbed as "washed out," as headlines from this rainy season's parliamentary sitting reflect. Initially, the government and the BJP had envisioned a legislative agenda brimming with promise, anticipating a clear political horizon. This optimistic outlook was abruptly disrupted by the unanticipated GenZ protests, which cast a dark cloud over proceedings.

At the outset of the session, discussions were rife about the government's intent to clear amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and to push ahead with the passage of the Delimitation Bill. However, the latter attempt had faltered in April, leaving the government with little to show for its efforts. Despite the setback, the government remained resolute in pursuing these legislative objectives during the Monsoon Session.
