Palestinian families ordered to leave homes during Israeli settler eviction operation

A dozen Palestinian households in the West Bank village of Qusra were ordered to vacate their properties during an Israeli military operation to remove Israeli settlers, according to reports. The settlers had besieged residents since Sunday by cutting off their power and water supplies. Mayor Abdel Azim Wadi of Qusra explained that the village had been declared a closed military zone, and Israeli forces were using some of the vacated Palestinian homes as barracks.

An Israeli military spokesperson stated that the objective was to "protect the residents," while an Israeli government official vowed to investigate and prosecute those responsible. The settlers' actions were deemed "deplorable" and "unacceptable" by an Israeli spokesman. The rapid expansion of illegal settlements under the current Israeli government has led to an increase in settler violence against Palestinians.

Of the three homes in Qusra where residents were told to leave, two families complied and moved into the third house. Meanwhile, 11 other houses in the village were also ordered to vacate. One resident, Qaher Odeh, recounted that over 20 soldiers entered his home and later sealed off the area. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed to have dismantled two illegal outposts and detained one Israeli individual with confiscated equipment.

Palestinians in Qusra had been alerted to the impending eviction through social media pleas for help. Israeli forces initially prayed with the settlers before attacking, an incident for which the IDF later stated they would face disciplinary action. The situation escalated after Israeli soldiers tried to dislodge the settlers, resulting in confrontations involving tear gas and stun grenades.

The settlers' intent remains unclear, but they have a history of forcing Palestinians to leave their homes and seizing their properties. The settlers aim to empty the area of its Palestinian residents, despite the illegality of settlements under international law.
