Asokore Mampong Assembly denies demolishing Sekyedumasi Community Bank structure

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in Ghana's Ashanti Region has rejected claims that it demolished the structure of Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC at the Aboabo Market during a recent demolition exercise. In a press release on August 13, 2026, the Assembly dismissed the allegations as "fabricated, completely false and without basis."

The Assembly expressed its respect for the legal process and pledged not to take any actions that could undermine the court's authority. The Assembly had consulted with Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC for nine months prior to the planned demolition and provided ample time for market occupants to vacate the site. However, the Assembly clarified that the bank's structure was not demolished when the exercise occurred in June and July 2026.

It explained that it had filed a response in a lawsuit filed against it by the bank, which prompted its refusal to act in a manner that could undermine the court's decisions. The Assembly also stated that its typical demolition procedures require prior notice, with its staff overseeing the process and security services providing assistance.

Therefore, any alleged demolition outside those procedures could not be attributed to the Municipal Assembly. The Assembly asserted that the allegations were likely a deliberate attempt to tarnish its reputation in the public's eyes. It emphasized its commitment to respecting and upholding the principles of due process. The statement was issued in response to allegations implicating the Assembly in the demolition of the Sekyedumasi Community Bank structure at the Aboabo Market, amid ongoing debates regarding the market redevelopment and demolition exercise.
