PKR Pahang, a branch of the opposition party in Malaysia, has received clarifications and investigations into their application process for a food assistance program, in response to accusations that recipients were inadvertently registered as party members without their knowledge. Party secretary Zukri Aksah expressed serious concern over the allegations and emphasized that all membership applications must be voluntary and made with full awareness and consent from the applicant.

In a Facebook post, Zukri stated that the party would investigate the procedures used in the program, including informing recipients, safeguarding personal information, and the process of registering skills through the Adil application and eKYC verification. He added that if any errors or violations of established procedures are found, appropriate corrective actions will be taken.

Zukri stressed that food rations should not be used as a condition, reward, or incentive for anyone to join the party. He reiterated that there is no party rule or guideline that allows for any form of coercion in membership matters. A recent news report claimed that food assistance recipients from the PKR Indera Mahkota branch, processed on August 9, had been accused of being automatically registered as party members without their knowledge.

Recently, PKR Pahang's Semambu ADUN, Chan Chun Kuang, urged the party to investigate the allegations. He urged the party to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter, emphasizing that food assistance should only be provided based on genuine needs, regardless of race, religion, or political allegiance. Chan stressed that party membership should be based on an individual's trust in the party's principles and its struggles.
