Nurse’s body recovered from locked toilet at Kolkata’s state-run NRS Hospital

On Wednesday night, a 30-year-old nurse met with an untimely death at the state-run NRS Hospital in Kolkata, police confirmed on Thursday morning. Post-mortem examinations were underway to establish the cause of her demise. West Bengal Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee and high-ranking police officials were dispatched to the hospital upon receiving the grim news.

The nurse, who was on duty that night, disappeared around 9:40 PM. Hospital staff became concerned when they noticed the door of a toilet remained locked for an unusually extended period. They attempted to communicate with her through shouting, but there was no response. In a desperate attempt to locate her, staff broke down the door and discovered the nurse's lifeless body inside.

An anonymous police officer reported that empty vials of anaesthetic injection and a syringe were found within the toilet. Upon examination, doctors pronounced the nurse dead. No suicide note was discovered, and the nurse's mobile phone was confiscated to scrutinize call records. Her husband was asked to arrive at the hospital to provide further information.

The nurse's lifeless body was found on the first floor of the maternity ward at the 150-year-old hospital. The area was cordoned off to maintain security. The nurse, who tied the knot in March with a man whose family resides in Delhi, hailed from East Midnapore district. She resided with her husband in a rented flat near Kolkata.
