6 teenagers arrested over armed attack in Kuantan

In Kuantan, six teenagers have been arrested following an armed attack at a business premises on Jalan Air Putih, according to police sources. The incident occurred around 2am on Monday, leaving two individuals seriously injured. The victims, aged 17 and 19, are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, with one of them requiring surgery due to injuries sustained during the attack.

The victims reported that they were attacked by a group of men wielding sticks and metal rods. One victim suffered a fractured right arm and a forehead injury necessitating surgery, while the other sustained injuries to his head, left arm, shoulder, and knee. Additionally, a Toyota Vios was damaged during the incident.

Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah, Kuantan police chief, stated that the police acted on information and arrested a suspect in Alor Akar on the following day, around 2pm. He further reported that another five teenagers were arrested near a basketball court in Bukit Setongkol several hours later.

According to the investigations, the incident is believed to have been triggered by a threat made by one of the teenagers to set fire to a sports club. The six suspects have been remanded until August 14 to assist with the ongoing investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code. This section pertains to rioting with weapons and carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
