Man used a screwdriver to kill his wife and daughter at a Minnesota daycare, police say

A man named Nathan Brown, 41, used a screwdriver to fatally stab his wife, Kristen Brown, 41, and their 7-year-old daughter, Evie Brown, at an in-home daycare in Hopkins, Minnesota, according to a search warrant released by police on Thursday. Brown then fatally shot himself in an upstairs closet, according to the warrant. The incident occurred inside the daycare that Kristen Brown operated from their family's basement.

A father who dropped off his children for daycare heard screams coming from the basement and entered the home, believing Brown was performing CPR before realizing it was an attack. He called 911 and fled the scene with his own children and two others. Police believe Brown had also killed a 78-year-old relative at her home in Burnsville, about 20 miles from Hopkins, although the woman's identity and the nature of their relationship have not been disclosed.

Witnesses reported that Kristen Brown had recently sent parents a letter stating the daycare would be closing due to "relationship issues with Nathan."
