Malaysian police granted access to question pilot detained in Jakarta over drug case, says home minister

Subang, August 13 — Indonesian authorities have reportedly granted Malaysian police investigators access to question a Malaysian pilot suspected of drug trafficking. The pilot, detained at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on July 28, allegedly brought 70,114 ecstasy pills and four grammes of methamphetamine in his luggage from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Jakarta.

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, a Narcotics Crime Investigation Department team was given permission to interview the suspect. Saifuddin stated that the investigation is ongoing and requested that the team be provided with sufficient time to complete their work. He also suggested that proposals to enhance airport security, currently under study by a multi-agency team, could potentially be presented jointly with the transport minister during next week's Cabinet meeting.
