Magic's New Foundations Commander Decks Are Worth Buying — Here's Why I'm So Excited

I began playing Magic: The Gathering in 2023 after being influenced by Lord of the Rings and a wish to play with friends. Over time, I developed a passion for Commander as a group activity, and now possess around 45 decks, including precons and custom builds. However, I am eager to acquire the upcoming Foundations precons due to their potential benefits.

Foundations, introduced in 2024, is a standard format designed to provide a solid foundation for new players. These sets are composed of reprints and classic staples, with no rotation, ensuring they remain legal until 2029. The decks are priced at $30 each, totaling $150 for all 500 cards, making them affordable and accessible for shared play with friends and family.

The new precons offer mono-colored decks focusing on Angels, Dragons, Dinosaurs, Zombies, and Artifacts, simplifying the learning curve for newcomers. Although these decks may not perfectly cater to competitive play, they present an excellent opportunity to introduce new players to Commander. Although the investment might seem excessive, it could prove valuable if it leads to new players joining the Commander format.
