LAUTECH resident doctors threaten strike over unmet demands

The Association of Resident Doctors at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has threatened to resume its suspended industrial action on August 28, 2026, if the government and hospital management fail to address their outstanding welfare demands. The doctors suspended their strike on June 27, granting the hospital and authorities an eight-week window to resolve their concerns.

The unresolved demands include the full implementation of the Medical Residency Training Fund, the new Professional Allowance table, payment of minimum wage arrears, and the urgent recruitment of resident doctors and critical manpower. The association emphasized that these demands are reasonable and that several welfare packages have been implemented in other healthcare institutions.

The hospital is currently experiencing severe shortages of medical personnel, leading to overworked and overstretched doctors. The association warned that the shortage could impact patient care and safety, stressing the importance of a well-motivated, adequately staffed, and properly supported workforce. They appealed to the Oyo State Governor and relevant authorities to intervene urgently to avert another disruption of medical services.
