MMDAs to receive second-quarter DACF transfers this week

District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) Administrator Michael Harry Yamson announced that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) meeting reporting requirements will receive their second-quarter DACF transfers this week. Four assemblies remain non-compliant with the necessary conditions for fund release. The compliant assemblies will receive their funds between Friday and the following Friday.

Yamson emphasized the importance of compliance in financial accountability and sustainable local development. He urged assemblies to enhance internally generated funds (IGF) and suggested options such as property rates, market levies, and other charges related to economic activities. The DACF is implementing reforms to boost transparency and accountability, including the use of digital systems like the Intellects platform.

This system allows the DACF to monitor financial returns, bank reconciliations, and development projects at the electoral area level. The Fund is also launching the Community Partners Fund to gather resources from citizens, the diaspora, corporations, and international organizations to further local development. The ultimate goal is to move Ghana's decentralisation system towards greater fiscal, administrative, and political autonomy for local governments without relying solely on central government transfers.
