Don’t leave Malay-Muslim concerns open to exploitation, says Kamil

PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim has warned that Malay-Muslim concerns in Malaysia should not be left open to exploitation by political opponents. Speaking at the PKR Youth congress, Kamil emphasized the need for PKR to address these concerns directly instead of allowing them to be used by rivals to spread fear and division. He pointed out that some opponents have successfully crafted narratives suggesting Malays are under threat and Islam is diminishing, even though these claims may not accurately reflect the country's reality.

Kamil argued that such emotionally charged narratives resonate deeply with people because they tap into a fundamental human fear of losing what is considered important. In recent state elections, the Pakatan Harapan coalition performed poorly in Negeri Sembilan and Johor, winning fewer seats than in previous elections. Amirudin Shari, a PKR vice-president and Pakatan Harapan election director, attributed the PH's defeat in Negeri Sembilan to the use of racial rhetoric during the campaign, which heightened unease among Malays and non-Malays.

Kamil insisted that these concerns are genuine within the Malay-Muslim community and should not be dismissed. He urged PKR Youth to reassure Malays by boosting their confidence that the country is fair to all and that Islam will not be weakened by respecting diversity. Kamil called for PKR Youth to speak about Malays and Islam with confidence, maturity, and integrity, while promoting a proud and capable Malay identity that is open to knowledge and globally competitive.
