Don’t leave Malay-Muslim concerns open to exploitation, says Kamil

PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim cautioned that Malay-Muslim concerns should not be left open to exploitation by political opponents. At the PKR Youth congress, Kamil emphasized the need for the party to address identity politics and fear head-on, rather than allowing rival parties to capitalize on these issues. He pointed to recent state election results, noting that Pakatan Harapan won 11 out of 36 seats in Negeri Sembilan, compared to PKR's 17 seats in the previous election, and eight out of 56 seats in Johor.

Pakatan Harapan election director Amirudin Shari attributed the PH losses to the use of racial rhetoric and identity politics by its rivals. Kamil, however, argued that Malay-Muslim concerns were legitimate and should not be dismissed, warning that failing to address them would leave the door open for others to exploit these anxieties.

He urged PKR Youth to speak confidently about Malays and Islam, promoting a strong Malay identity that is proud of its history, open to knowledge, and capable of competing globally. According to Kamil, strong people do not worry about who they should fear, but rather focus on building what they want to leave behind.
