Dagestan airport antisemitic rioter who hunted Israeli passengers killed in Ukraine

Omar Zhanburuaev, convicted for participating in the antisemitic riot at Dagestan airport in 2023, has been killed while fighting in Ukraine, according to recent reports. The riot occurred on October 29, 2023, when hundreds of extremists stormed the airport, suspecting a plane from Israel was arriving. They searched the terminal and tarmac for passengers from Tel Aviv.

Thirty security personnel and police officers were attacked, with 23 sustaining injuries. Russia's Investigative Committee later charged 142 suspects in connection with the unrest. Zhanburuaev had reportedly released a video in January, stating he had joined the Russian army to change his life and atone for his actions. He had initially claimed his intent during the riot was to show support for Palestinians, but acknowledged causing harm to his homeland instead.

Shamil Khadulaev, head of Dagestan's Public Monitoring Commission, confirmed Zhanburuaev as the latest individual involved in the airport riot to be killed in combat. Of the seven people from the riot who later joined the Russian military, five remain alive, with one being seriously wounded. Another riot participant, Muhammad Said Murtazaliev, was previously killed while fighting in Ukraine and was buried in January.
