Bulgarian coastal city Burgas to host Eurovision 2027

Bulgaria's coastal city Burgas has been chosen to host the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, as announced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT). The final will be held on May 15, 2027, with semi-finals on May 11 and 13. Burgas edged out Sofia to secure the honor following a complex evaluation process that met all EBU requirements.

The contest will take place at Arena Burgas, a multifunctional venue with a capacity of up to 15,000 spectators. Burgas, the second-largest city on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, is known for its commercial port and popular tourist destination, Sunny Beach. The city's mayor, Dimitar Nikolov, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the beauty of Bulgaria and deliver a successful hosting experience.

Eurovision, which began in 1955, has produced notable stars such as ABBA, Celine Dion, Cliff Richard, and Olivia Newton-John. The 2026 contest drew 131 million viewers, but faced boycotts from five countries over Israel's participation. Bulgaria previously competed in Eurovision in 2005 but missed the last three editions due to financial reasons.

The city will host the event at its multifunctional Arena, which has a seating capacity of 5,500 for the contest and can accommodate up to 15,000 people.
