Body of missing Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi recovered on Broad Peak

The body of missing Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi has been recovered on Broad Peak, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP). The tragic event occurred following a deadly avalanche on July 30 that severed communication with the 10-member international expedition led by British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja. Purja's team later confirmed there were no survivors among the group, which included Sakhi, American climber Sarah Mallory Geis, and Nepalese climber Nawang Thindu Sherpa.

The search for Sakhi and the other two missing climbers was suspended last week due to the threat of further avalanches. However, on Thursday, local volunteers from Shigar discovered Sakhi's remains. The volunteers, including Muhammad Nadeem, Muhammad Bashir, and Abuzar, alerted others in the area, who then brought the body down from Camp 1 to the base camp.

ACP General Secretary Ayaz Shigri confirmed that the body has been transported to Broad Peak Base Camp and will be airlifted to Skardu by Pakistan Army helicopters, depending on weather conditions. The recovery process for the remaining two climbers' bodies will resume once weather conditions improve and the area is deemed safe.
