Barcelona agree to sell Torres to PSG

Barcelona have reached an agreement to sell Spanish forward Ferran Torres to French side Paris St-Germain for nearly €50 million, according to Spanish media reports on Thursday. The 26-year-old, who has scored 40 goals in 94 matches over the past two seasons at Barcelona, is set to sign a five-year contract with the French club, as quoted by Barcelona sources.

The remaining formalities and a medical examination are expected to be mere formalities, the sources added. Torres, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021, had only a year left on his contract, which Barcelona declined to renew when an initial offer of €40 million was presented on Monday. Torres, promoted to a central forward role under new Barca manager Hansi Flick, has proven to be a decisive player as a substitute, scoring 40 goals in 94 matches across all competitions in the last two seasons.

Torres netted the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final against Argentina, securing the team's second world title. His departure from Barcelona adds urgency to Flick's pursuit for more attacking options, following the exits of Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford. The Spanish champions have already signed England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund.
