‘Won’t promote cheap, non-dairy substitutes’: Madhya Pradesh bans analogue paneer

Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a ban on analogue paneer in the state on Wednesday, stating that the government will not promote cheaper non-dairy substitutes. Instead, they will focus on strengthening the state's dairy identity by pushing products made from natural milk. The ban aims to discourage the sale of analogue paneer and encourage the production of natural paneer made from actual milk.

Yadav emphasized that they will not allow substitutes to gain a foothold in the market. The announcement follows similar bans imposed by Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. Analogue paneer, which resembles conventional paneer but can use non-milk ingredients, has been a subject of controversy. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India had previously issued a public notice urging food service establishments to correctly label their cheese analogues and cease the practice immediately.
