Former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has spoken out about his decision not to take the vacant Netherlands manager's job. The 47-year-old former Feyenoord coach revealed that he chose to remain in club football rather than joining the national team. Slot had been in talks with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to replace Ronald Koeman but decided against continuing with the process.

He dismissed reports suggesting that disagreements over salary or contract length were the reason for his withdrawal. Slot clarified that his decision was due to his preference for working with a club team daily, which was not feasible in the same way with a national team. The former coach emphasized that his decision was not a reflection of his feelings towards the Netherlands national team or the KNVB.

He expressed respect for the national team and the KNVB and remained positive about the professional manner in which the talks proceeded. While Slot does not rule out managing his country in the future, this decision was not the right moment for him. With Slot out of the running, former Portugal manager Roberto Martinez is now being considered for the vacant position.
