‘Until Trump is out’: Iran signals war could stretch for years

Iran could prolong its war with the US until President Donald Trump leaves office, according to a senior adviser to the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Senior adviser Mohammad Reza Naqdi told CNN that the goal is to maintain a deterrent against any potential attacks, causing attrition so that future attackers would know the cost of conflict.

Naqdi made these remarks in a PBS interview. At the same time, President Trump claimed that the US had secured control over the Strait of Hormuz, portraying Iran as weakened by the conflict. The US has imposed a naval blockade around the strait, which Iran says they cannot overcome due to their depleted military resources and uncertain leadership.

Trump also argued that sustained pressure could force Iran into a breakthrough, while Iran rejects any compensation demands in a potential peace deal and maintains that the US meet their conditions before reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
