Trump’s spokesperson Karoline Leavitt to step down

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has announced her resignation from her role, scheduled to take effect at the end of the month. The 28-year-old, who became the youngest ever US presidential spokesperson, will remain a senior advisor to President Donald Trump. In a statement on social media, Leavitt cited the desire to spend more time with her children as the reason for her departure, stating that she feels she cannot be the best mother for her two young children while fulfilling her duties as press secretary.

Trump praised Leavitt, calling her his "most trusted aide" and confirming that she will serve as one of his top outside advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party. Leavitt's tenure as press secretary saw a revival of regular briefings and a shift in White House interactions with journalists, including the decision to let the White House decide which reporters could cover the President up close.

Leavitt, a Trump supporter, previously ran for a congressional seat in 2022 on a pro-Trump platform after the 2020 election loss.
