Trio of Koreans teeing off in 1st leg of PGA Tour playoffs

Three Korean golfers will compete in the initial round of the PGA Tour's playoff series this week. Two of them, Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim, have a strong chance of advancing to the subsequent round, while the third player, Im Sung-jae, aims to join them. All three have qualified for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which commences on Thursday at the TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

This marks the opening event of the three FedEx Cup playoff tournaments, with the top 70 players from the FedEx Cup rankings eligible to participate. The top 50 following this week's competition will secure their spots for the next playoff event, the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis. Ultimately, the top 30 after the second tournament will progress to the climax, the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Kim Si-woo, currently ranked 7th, and Tom Kim, ranked 26th, are comfortably within the top 50 and are expected to make it through the first round. Im Sung-jae, ranked 53rd, will need to deliver an exceptional performance to secure a place in the top 50 and continue his streak of participating in seven consecutive Tour Championships. Throughout the season, Kim Si-woo has been one of the PGA Tour's most consistent performers.
