1959 - Japan and North Korea agree to repatriate Koreans living in Japan, with the communist nation eager to bolster its workforce post-Korean War. Over five years, 77,288 Koreans from Japan journey to North Korea, a trend that dwindles after the 1970s due to deteriorating economic conditions in the North.

1994 - Samsung Electronics makes history by inventing the world's first 256-megabit DRAM computer chips.
