Terrorist surrenders rise 213% in one week — Military

The Nigerian military has reported a 213 percent surge in the number of terrorist fighters and associates surrendering to troops in the North East over the course of one week, according to a statement released on Wednesday. This increase followed sustained military operations, dubbed Operation HADIN KAI, aimed at weakening terrorist capabilities and disrupting their supply networks across the region.

Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, detailed the surge in surrenders compared to the previous week, attributing it to continued military efforts against terrorist positions and logistics networks. The recent surrender of two high-profile members, who handed over weapons and ammunition, further underscored the impact of sustained military pressure on terrorist groups.

Goni emphasized that the rising number of surrenders indicates terrorist fighters' willingness to abandon their activities and follow established surrender procedures. The military noted that the increasing trend also reflects the erosion of terrorist cohesion and operational sustainability. In a related incident, a group from Bama surrendered to troops on August 7, following sustained operations and internal disagreements within the terrorist enclave.

The military, through Operation HADIN KAI, is committed to maintaining pressure on terrorist elements while providing channels for surrendering individuals. The Theatre Command called for public support in providing timely information to security agencies and encouraged terrorists and associates to abandon violence and utilize surrender channels.
