경찰, 검사의 ‘보완수사 요구 사건’ 전담부서 신설한다

The police have announced the establishment of a new department to handle cases requiring additional judicial officers and prosecutors, as part of the implementation of the revised Criminal Procedure Act set to take effect in October. This decision comes after the Police Headquarters held a second task force meeting on the subsequent measures for the revised law on October 12.

The task force aims to ensure the independence of internal investigative work by assigning investigators without regard to local connections. The new department will manage cases requiring additional judicial officers and oversee their execution and monitoring. It will be operational within the Central Police Headquarters and local police departments, with personnel numbers to be increased in the latter half of the year as part of police personnel adjustments.

The police force is also planning to bolster its investigative team by adding 881 staff members, as determined during a previous meeting. The upcoming October 2 deadline for personnel increase is crucial to avoid disruptions in civilian affairs. In preparation for the law's implementation, the police force will provide education on the relevant revised law to its personnel.

The task force will review the nation's concerns regarding police investigations and protect the rights of crime victims. The Police Headquarters conducted the last meeting of the task force last May to discuss strengthening accountability and punishment for police corruption, increasing investigative personnel and budget, and revising subsequent legislation.
