Spotify to launch badge identifying AI music

Spotify, the leading streaming service, plans to unveil an "AI Persona" badge in mid-September, set to distinctly label content created by artificial intelligence rather than real individuals, according to a company announcement made on Tuesday. The Swedish firm explained that users have expressed a preference for not encountering human-like artist profiles that are, in fact, AI-generated.

The new measure is part of Spotify's ongoing commitment to transparency regarding the origin of the music featured on its platform, as the issue of AI-generated content flooding streaming libraries has raised concerns within the music sector.

Earlier this year, Spotify rolled out its "Verified by Spotify" badge, which signals that a profile has undergone verification and conforms to the platform's authenticity criteria. The company further stated that alongside artist profiles self-identifying as AI Personas, badges will commence appearing on appropriate profiles. However, Spotify clarified that AI Personas will not be included in editorial or personalized recommendations unless a user specifically follows such an AI Persona.
