Sachin Ahir Visits Kurla Landslide Site, Assures Relief And Rehabilitation For Affected Families

On Wednesday, Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir visited the site of a devastating landslide near Gaushia Chawl in Kurla. Six people tragically lost their lives, and rescue operations were ongoing at the time of his visit. Ahir described the incident as "extremely unfortunate and painful" and affirmed that the government and administration were fully supporting the affected families.

He informed reporters that immediate relief measures had been activated shortly after receiving reports of the disaster. Upon his inspection, Ahir reported that one person had been successfully rescued alive from the debris, with two more individuals still believed to be trapped under the rubble. The Deputy Chairman commended the Fire Brigade personnel for their diligent efforts during the rescue operation, despite facing significant challenges.

He also recognized the swift response from the civic administration. In response to the tragedy, the administration pledged to deposit a financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh into the bank accounts of each of the victims' families. Ahir further indicated that he would seek additional financial aid for the affected families from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Ahir emphasized the importance of providing permanent rehabilitation for the residents of the affected area, stating that a safe home is a fundamental right for every citizen in Mumbai. He called for a detailed discussion with the state Deputy Chief Minister to address the permanent rehabilitation of residents and advocated for the revival of the stalled Shivshahi Rehabilitation Project to tackle the longstanding rehabilitation concerns in the locality.

Ahir stressed the urgent need to prioritize safety measures and ensure that affected residents are swiftly relocated to secure locations and given permanent rehabilitation as a matter of priority.
