Nick Reiner Pleads Not Guilty to New Allegation in Murder of Parents Rob and Michele Reiner

Nick Reiner, 32, has been indicted by a grand jury for first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, acclaimed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. Prosecutors allege that Reiner stabbed the couple to death in their Brentwood home in December before fleeing the scene.

Reiner was apprehended shortly after the murders and charged with murder. He has since been held in custody without bail. The indictment adds two counts of murder enhanced by a special circumstance: murder by lying in wait. Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Should he be convicted, he could face the death penalty, though prosecutors have not yet decided whether to pursue capital punishment.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman expressed shock and sorrow over the brutal betrayal, stating that the grand jury's indictment brings the county one step closer to a trial and justice. Rob Reiner, a towering figure in Hollywood, was known for his work in films such as "When Harry Met Sally" and "The Princess Bride." The couple was also active in fundraising for Democratic causes.

Reiner's eldest son, Jake Reiner, addressed the family tragedy for the first time in April, describing the parents' deaths as a profound and incomprehensible loss.
