Reiger Park to hold memorial service for woman killed in shooting

Reiger Park will host a memorial service for Jaydin Margerman on Thursday evening, following her death in a shooting ambush. Margerman and Roleen Lessing were among two women killed when they were shot inside a vehicle near the site where two South African Police Service anti-gang unit members were also murdered. Regan Collins, a 23-year-old suspect, appeared in court on Thursday morning and faces charges of the four murders.

His bail application has been set for August 25, 2026. The women had gone to a nearby shop where Margerman entered and left, returning just as both women were targeted. Two SAPS officers, Constables Tlomatsane and Sibeko, were also fatally wounded while responding to gunshots. It remains unclear if the officers were responding to the initial gunfire that killed Margerman and Lessing.

The community is set to gather for a memorial service to honor Margerman, while Lessing's will take place on Thursday.
