Police arrest suspected kidnapper while attempting to withdraw ransom

The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper, Muhamodu Sanni, while he was attempting to withdraw ransom following the abduction of three residents from Obudu Village in Ilorin East Local Government Area. The arrest came after an intelligence-led investigation into the July 28 attack on the community. This development is seen as a significant breakthrough in the police's efforts to dismantle not only the suspected kidnappers but also the financial and logistical networks that support their criminal activities.

The incident involved armed men invading the community and abducting the three residents, which prompted the police to broaden their investigation beyond just tracking the abductors. Instead, they focused on investigating the channels through which the criminal group communicated, moved resources, and collected ransom payments. SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi revealed that this investigative approach eventually led them to Sanni, who was apprehended while trying to withdraw funds associated with the abduction.

During questioning, Sanni allegedly provided investigators with details about two other suspects, referred to only as Aminu and Umar. The police are continuing their discreet investigation, with further actions expected as they analyze and verify the intelligence obtained from the suspect. Kwara State's Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has assured residents that the command will persist in targeting criminal networks and their support systems.

He also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to assist security agencies in preventing and dismantling criminal operations, emphasizing that the command will continue to restrict the activities of criminal elements across the state.
