Pogba expected to have Monaco contract terminated

Paul Pogba is reportedly close to having his contract with Monaco terminated, according to sources cited by the BBC. The former World Cup winner moved to the French club last summer, after a doping ban had been lifted. Pogba signed a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 side, but it was set to expire at the end of the current season.

Reports indicate that discussions for an early departure are ongoing and likely to be finalized soon. Monaco has yet to make any official statement regarding the matter. Pogba's inaugural season at Monaco was hindered by injuries, but optimism arose that the French player would be more regularly featured in the side this season.

However, a managerial change following Filipe Luis' appointment as the new manager could alter Monaco's strategy in midfield, potentially leading to Pogba's exit. Pogba was initially banned from football for a period of four years due to a positive DHEA test in 2024, resulting from a test taken in August 2023. He argued that the substance was ingested unknowingly through a supplement.

Monaco granted him permission to resume his football career in March 2025, following the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to reduce his ban to 18 months.
