Pixel 11 Pro Fold is $1,899 and Google says the back is ‘nearly impossible to crack’ [Hands-on]

Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold may not look groundbreaking, but its key updates make it the most impressive foldable release from the company. While the rest of the Pixel 11 series feels like a copy-paste job with higher prices, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold offers more to the table. The phone features a Tensor G6 processor, slightly faster charging, new colors - "Olive" green and "Obsidian" black - and a thinner design at 10.1mm, weighing 10% less at 239g.

However, it falls short in the camera department with a 48MP + 10.5MP ultrawide + 10.8MP 5x telephoto setup and a smaller 4,806 mAh battery. What sets the Pixel 11 Pro Fold apart is Google's focus on durability. The phone boasts a new hinge design and returns to an IP68 dust/water resistance rating, a feature not found in other mass-market foldables.

Additionally, Google has introduced two new glass updates: a ceramic material front display that is "three times more durable" and a glass fiber composite back glass that Google claims is "nearly impossible to crack." During hands-on testing, a Googler demonstrated that the backplate could bend and wrap around the part designed to break it, rather than shatter.

While the inner display saw minor improvements, the outer display is brighter, reaching 3,600 nits. Google also integrated new features into the foldable form factor, such as Live Transcribe in Gboard with sign language support and the arrival of Bubbles in Android 17. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is available for pre-order at $1,899 for the 256GB model with 16GB of RAM, set to launch on August 20.
