Nigeria-India trade hits $9bn, up 26% in one year – Envoy

Bilateral trade between Nigeria and India surged by approximately 26% to reach $9 billion in the 2025-26 financial year, up from $7.13 billion in the previous year, according to the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abishek Singh. Singh made these revelations during a media briefing in Abuja. The Indian envoy highlighted that over 200 Indian companies operating in Nigeria have created nearly 100,000 jobs for Nigerians, making Indian firms the second-largest employers in Nigeria after the federal government.

Singh emphasized that the growth in trade signifies the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations, which has transcended traditional oil trade to encompass investment, security, technology, agriculture, healthcare, energy, and other sectors. He noted that this partnership, marked by high-level political engagements and strategic collaborations, is evolving into a multidimensional relationship between Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, and India, a leading global power.
