Nenek tiri didakwa bunuh cucu 16 bulan

Nurul Farhana Laili Shah, a 39-year-old housemaid, appeared before the Magistrate's Court in Johor yesterday, charged with the murder of her 16-month-old granddaughter. The Berita Harian reported that there was no recorded confession from the woman during the proceedings. According to the chargesheet, the woman is accused of killing Nur Anggun Dahlia Abdullah, a 16-month-old infant, in Taman Sri Saujana, Johor on the afternoon of July 30, 2022, between 12:30 PM and 9:30 AM on July 31, 2022.

The woman, charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of death or a maximum of 40 years in prison, and if not sentenced to death, must be detained for at least 12 years. The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Afiqah Musa, while defense lawyer Lydiana Mansor represented the accused. The court has set aside July 12 to hear the case again pending the results of toxicology, autopsy, and DNA reports.

Earlier, Johor Police Commissioner Ab Rahaman Arsad reported that the accused had been detained because she was accused of mistreating the victim until her death. He stated that the suspect had been caring for the infant since birth as the infant's mother was an unmarried 18-year-old who was also a student at a college. According to him, the suspect reported the victim's death when she was sleeping, but the autopsy revealed that the cause of death was trauma to the abdomen and chest, caused by a heavy object.
