‘It’s going to be spectacular’: Millions flock to Spain seeking best view of total solar eclipse

Millions of people are flocking to Spain in anticipation of witnessing the total solar eclipse that is set to take place on Wednesday. The eclipse will stretch approximately 200km from A Coruña in the northwest to the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. This is Spain's first total solar eclipse in over a century and officials estimate that up to 6 million individuals could visit the path of the eclipse.

Astronomer César González stated that the event will be a spectacular sight, describing it as one of nature's most impressive spectacles. He plans to wake up early and search for an isolated field where the sky will be clear to observe the eclipse. Around 460,000 people have already traveled to Spain to witness the celestial event, with many opting for rural areas to find the best viewing spot.

Hotels in the country are reporting that bookings have been made months in advance, even from locations as far as Japan and the United States. Spain's weather forecast predicts temperatures of up to 40C and a high risk of wildfires, leading to the deployment of over 24,000 police officers. French tourist Stéphanie Racco, who has traveled to Spain to see the eclipse, expressed her excitement about sharing the experience with her young children after her last eclipse sighting in 1999.
