Ipoh married couple charged with trafficking 480.6g MDMA, face death penalty

IPOH, Aug 12 — A married couple, Teoh Wai Loon, 44, and Lim Suk Pei, 38, have been charged for trafficking 480.6 grammes of MDMA last week, according to the Magistrate’s Court in Ipoh. The case was presented to Magistrate S. Punitha, who noted that no plea was recorded as the matter is under the High Court's jurisdiction. The accused were apprehended on Aug 4 around 10:30 pm at Room M333, The Pearl Orient Sdn Bhd, Bercham Bistari 4, Medan Bercham Bistari, Kinta district.

The charges against them are under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, coupled with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential death penalty or life imprisonment, along with whipping amounting to at least 12 strokes if the death penalty is not given upon conviction. The prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zulqarnain Wan Asmira, argued that the couple were part of a drug trafficking syndicate that had been active since June.

Police conducted four raids in Ipoh and Tapah and seized MDMA, ketamine, vehicles, and cash worth a total of RM538,451. The court has set Dec 7 for a case mention to obtain the chemical analysis report.
