IMD rain alert: Heavy rain likely in 7 states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert, predicting heavy rain across seven Indian states on Thursday, August 13. The monsoon remains active in several regions, with a low-pressure area forming over the north Bay of Bengal off the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts. This low-pressure system is expected to intensify and possibly concentrate into a depression.

Across northwest India, including Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, widespread rainfall is expected. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast to become more likely starting August 14. In Uttarakhand, heavy rain is anticipated from August 13 to 18, while Himachal Pradesh may see heavy rain for several days during the same period. East Rajasthan is also expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 13-14.

Heavy rainfall is forecast over Uttar Pradesh from August 14-18, with isolated heavy rainfall possible over both East and West Uttar Pradesh. West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha are expected to see widespread rainfall until August 18, with very heavy rainfall possible over East Madhya Pradesh during August 15-16 and over Chhattisgarh on August 13-14. Heavy rainfall is also expected over Vidarbha from August 13-17.

Eastern India, including Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, is expected to remain under a heavy to very heavy rain warning, with low wind speeds of 40-50 kmph and gusts up to 60 kmph. Northeast India is also forecast to remain rainy, with Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura experiencing fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from August 13 to 18.
