Good news for skywatchers: much of Germany stays clear during the solar eclipse and shooting stars. Meteorologist Markus Übel of the German Weather Service in Offenbach reports mostly optimal weather conditions for observing the partial solar eclipse across Germany late in the evening. Only a few clouds will pass over the northern regions, still providing decent viewing conditions, though not completely uninterrupted.

Many people will gaze at the sky in fascination as the moon slides in front of the sun. The solar eclipse will cast an unusual twilight or even darkness over wide parts of Europe. People should look towards the horizon as the moon will only partially cover the sun's disk, but a partial solar eclipse is still an impressive celestial event that many will not want to miss.

In contrast, a total solar eclipse can be viewed in Spain, Greenland, or Iceland. Wearing a certified protective eyewear is crucial to avoid permanent eye damage. Shortly after the solar eclipse comes the next highlight: the Perseid meteor shower, with its peak around 11:00 PM. Übel notes that again, the conditions are perfect for admiring the numerous shooting stars, thanks to mostly clear skies and a new moon.

However, temperatures will be relatively cold, especially in the northern half of Germany, with lows of 15 or even 10 degrees Celsius. Besides good-cleaned lenses, a jacket will be helpful.
