Global Affairs tight-lipped on fate of Canadian men being held in Iraq

OTTAWA - The Canadian government is declining to reveal if Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand talked about the return of Canadian men detained in Iraq during her recent conversation with her Iraqi counterpart. In an email reply, department spokesperson Aditee Kissoon stated that the government is still evaluating situations concerning Canadian citizens detained in Iraq, and no additional details can be shared due to privacy and security reasons.

Earlier this year, foreign nationals, including Canadians, were relocated from Kurdish-held Syrian detention centers to Iraq. However, Foreign Minister Anita Anand's July 31 call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein did not mention the Canadian detainees.
