European Championships: Irish in action on Day 4

Day four of the European Athletics Championships and European Aquatics Championships saw the Irish athletes in action. Evan Bailey secured the 7th position in his heat but failed to advance to the semi-finals, ending up 29th overall. Cormac Rynn placed 6th in his heat, ending up 54th overall and not qualifying for the semi-finals.

Denis O'Brien managed to finish 3rd in his heat, placing 65th overall and also failing to reach the semi-finals stage. Liam Custer ended his day 7th in his heat, placing 72nd overall and not qualifying for the semi-finals. Alana Burns-Atkin placed 9th in her heat, finishing 45th overall and not advancing further.

On the other hand, John Shortt started his day on a high note, winning the first position in his heat, which put him at 25th overall. Despite this strong start, he too failed to make it to the semi-finals. Mona McSharry, a consistent performer throughout the day, secured the 2nd position in her heat, giving her a solid 2nd overall ranking.

Towards the end of the day, she clinched the 1st position in the semi-final, securing her 4th overall position and advancing to the final. Ellie McCartney, another Irish athlete, also had a great day, finishing 3rd in her heat, placing 9th overall and advancing to the semi-finals. Her second semi-final performance, where she placed 5th, earned her a 7th overall ranking and another spot in the final.
