Driver stops to help foreign worker who cycled onto SLE after following Google Maps

A driver named Wilson Foong, 45, has been commended for his kindness after he stopped to help a foreign worker who had cycled onto the Seletar Expressway (SLE). Wilson noticed the cyclist riding on the expressway towards Woodlands and felt concerned for his safety. He overtook the cyclist and found a safe spot to pull over, waiting for him.

The incident was captured on video, which shows Wilson asking the cyclist about his destination. The cyclist explained that he was trying to travel from Ang Mo Kio to Woodlands, but his ATM card was not working, so he was unable to use public transport. He had rented a shared bicycle and had used Google Maps on his phone for navigation.

However, the navigation was set to two-wheeler mode, which is designed for motorcycles, causing him to inadvertently enter the SLE. The cyclist did not know that bicycles are not permitted on the expressway, as stated by Wilson. To assist the cyclist in exiting the SLE safely, Wilson loaded his bicycle onto the bike rack of his car and drove him to Mandai Road.

There, they entered the Ulu Sembawang Park Connector and continued their journey towards Woodlands. Before parting ways, Wilson also taught the cyclist how to switch the bicycle mode on Google Maps to prevent future navigational errors onto expressways. The cyclist expressed his gratitude to Wilson for his help, and Wilson explained that as a fellow cyclist, he is always vigilant about the safety of fellow cyclists.
