David Crowley's Chances of Beating Tom Tiffany After Wisconsin Primary Win

Democrats' chances of retaining the Wisconsin governor's office have increased significantly following the victory of moderate Democrat David Crowley in the party's gubernatorial primary. The candidate, who aims to be Wisconsin's first Black governor, narrowly defeated progressive state Representative Francesca Hong in the primary. Crowley had previously suspended his campaign in early July before reviving it when he received the endorsement of former Democratic Governor Tony Evers.

During an interview with CNN, Crowley emphasized his stance against MAGA extremism, stating that he wants to defeat Donald Trump's legacy and ensure Tom Tiffany doesn't become the governor. In another interview with MS NOW's Jen Psaki, Crowley explained that the race is not merely about ideology but rather focusing on values and keeping working families at the center of every discussion.

Despite Hong's strong lead in public polls, Crowley emerged victorious in the primary after gaining the support of more mainstream Democrats who feared progressive candidates would struggle in the general election. Prediction markets now give Democrats a 78% chance of winning the governor's office this fall, up from 39.4% the previous day, and a 77% chance of winning in November, up from 41% a day ago.

Republicans' odds have fallen to 22%, down from 61.8% and 51%, respectively. While Crowley's win may temporarily ease Democrats' concerns, they still face a tough battle against Republican candidate Tom Tiffany in November.
