Bagre Dam spillage: NADMO secures temporary shelters for potential flood victims

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Ghana's Upper East Region has secured temporary shelters for residents potentially affected by the imminent Bagre Dam spillage in Burkina Faso. Rebecca Akolgo, Upper East Regional Director of NADMO, stated that the organization is working alongside key stakeholders to enhance preparedness and mitigation efforts in flood-prone areas.

During an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Ms. Akolgo mentioned that temporary structures have been identified and secured in vulnerable communities to provide safe spaces for displaced individuals. NADMO has also initiated community sensitisation and public education campaigns, particularly targeting farmers and residents living along the White Volta.

Residents have been advised to immediately move to higher ground upon the onset of flooding to ensure their safety. NADMO's monitoring efforts continue as the water level at the Bagre Dam approaches the 234 mark, which is anticipated to trigger the spillage. The organization emphasized that it operates in collaboration with other agencies to strengthen preparedness and ensure an effective response in case of flooding. Ms. Akolgo urged residents to heed the warnings and follow evacuation directives when necessary.
