‘ ₹21,000 rent, ₹10,000 on commuting’: Bengaluru woman's ₹1 lakh monthly budget breakdown goes viral

A Bengaluru-based professional has shared a detailed breakdown of her monthly expenses, revealing that she spends around ₹1 lakh each month. In an Instagram post, Ishita Chaudhary, a corporate professional working at Rubrik, detailed her spending in various categories.

Rent for a 3BHK, including maintenance, accounts for ₹21,000 of her monthly budget. She also allocated ₹500 each for furniture, an air purifier, and Wi-Fi. Household expenses totaled ₹7,000 for groceries, while ₹2,000 each was spent on a cook for meals and a maid for cleaning and washing. She spent ₹3,000 on food delivery platforms like Zomato and Swiggy, ₹5,000 on eating out, and another ₹5,000 on hobbies and activities. Commuting within the city cost her ₹10,000 each month.

The remaining expenses were mainly lifestyle-related, including ₹15,000 for shopping, ₹20,000 for travel and trips, ₹5,000 for salon visits, and ₹3,000 for sports. This brought her overall monthly expenditure to approximately ₹1 lakh. She noted that she did not spend separately on commuting to the office, weekday lunches at work, gym expenses, or office snacks, listing each as zero.

The post sparked reactions from users, with some expressing concern over her spending and others joking about the amount left for savings. Earlier, another Instagram user, Chahat Yadav, posted a video detailing her monthly expenses as a 21-year-old living alone in Gurgaon. Like Ishita, rent was her largest expense at ₹15,000 for a fully furnished 1RK apartment.
