Why I’m backing Adeleke despite being ADC member — Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced his support for Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party in the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election slated for August 15, 2026. This decision comes despite Momodu being a member of the rival opposition party, the ADC. In a statement, Momodu emphasized the need for opposition parties to set aside their individual interests and unite behind Adeleke to counter what he perceives as the "APC cankerworm" that has ravaged the nation's economy, social cohesion, religious tolerance, and democratic institutions.

Momodu, a former presidential aspirant, remains a member of the ADC but explained that his decision to endorse Adeleke was not based on personal connections or kinship ties. He referred to Adeleke as a global phenomenon who could defeat President Bola Tinubu in a popularity contest, praising him for his extraordinary performance across various sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, staff welfare, labor unions, IGR, agriculture, commerce, culture, women empowerment, and youth integration.

Despite initial hopes that a coalition of opposition forces would form easily, Momodu admitted that the desired outcome did not materialize. However, he expressed no loss of hope that Nigerians would rise against the APC's influence. Momodu cautioned opposition parties against providing the APC with an easy pretext to rig the election, urging them to act with practical commonsense and confront the reality of the situation in Osun State.
