South African ex-teacher apologises over alleged shooting threats

Pieter Johannes Dreyer, a former English teacher at Hatyaiwittayalai School in Songkhla, South Africa, has apologized for allegedly posting messages threatening to shoot teachers and school administrators. The posts were made in a Line group chat following the termination of his contract. Dreyer's apology video addressed students, former colleagues, parents, alumni, and others affected by his comments, acknowledging that some of his words may have caused fear and concern, especially at a time when school violence is already a sensitive issue.

He insisted that his intention was not to harm anyone and that he rejects violence. Dreyer stated that his comments were meant to raise concerns that needed to be addressed appropriately, but acknowledged that his manner of expressing them was wrong. He expressed regret for causing people to feel afraid and understood that recent events had heightened these concerns.

Dreyer had already apologized in the group chat and wanted to do so again to all of his Thai students, emphasizing that any conflicts or concerns should be handled through appropriate procedures and should not involve violence or threats. He hoped people would accept his apology and pledged to be more careful with his words in the future.
