Analyst Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri asserts that the genuine threat to a strong Pakatan is not the presence of other political players, but rather the insecurity among the parties themselves. While the Barisan Nasional (BN) may benefit from the National Accord (PN) to strengthen its electoral strength, Umno may ultimately generate concerns about whether it has helped build a stronger force to challenge it.

Zaharuddin warns that if PN becomes too closely aligned with BN, it could undermine the party's electoral prospects and dilute its identity, making it less appealing to voters. The analyst states that a truly robust Pakatan should not be threatened by the presence of additional political players, as the weaknesses of BN and PN are rooted in mutual distrust and fear of being influenced by outside parties.

Both Umno and PN recognize each other's importance, but neither wants another party to gain too much power. Analyst Wong Chin Huat notes that the Wawasan party poses a direct challenge to Umno, as its ideology aligns closely with Umno's. If PAS needs to support Umno's candidate for prime minister, it is likely to choose Wawasan over Umno due to its weaker identity and easier control.

With multiple parties competing for the same voter base, a spirit of fierce competition and distrust among them has emerged. Parties are united by external threats, such as the opposition of Umno and PAS, which often require cultural symbols of conflict to unite voters. The more players there are, the harder it is for them to maintain a unifying narrative, as some parties form coalitions to oppose others.
