Police raid Korea Airports Corp., transport ministry over Jeju Air crash

SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- Police conducted a raid on Tuesday to seize evidence pertaining to their probe into the 2024 Jeju Air plane crash that claimed the lives of 179 individuals. The special team conducting the investigation announced that they had targeted the Korea Airports Corp. (KAC), which manages most major domestic airports aside from Incheon International Airport, the transport ministry, and the Busan Regional Office of Aviation.

The purpose of the raid was to collect further information related to allegations of professional negligence leading to loss of life or limb, which were being faced by 45 individuals, an official from the team revealed. The police also hinted at the possibility of additional charges being brought up, such as causing a grave public calamity, according to the report.

The inquiry has been centered on ascertaining the cause of the accident at Muan International Airport on December 29, 2024, and evaluating if the respective agencies dealt with the situation appropriately.
